My Calisthenics Workout Journey
Back in 2015, I found myself on the Swedish TV show, Ninja Warriors. Little did I know, this would be the start of an incredible journey. During the show, I met my boyfriend, Daniel Flefill, and my friend, Dana Jstar. Both of them were already into calisthenics, a term I hadn’t even heard before. Daniel, having seen it on YouTube, was eager to try it. When they showed me some videos, I thought it looked impossible.
Dana invited us to train with him and his team, and Daniel was ecstatic. I, on the other hand, was hesitant. It looked way too difficult, and my self-confidence was really low back then. My initial reaction was a firm “no.” But, they convinced me to give it a shot, and for that, I’m very thankful today.
Taking the First Steps
Once I started, I quickly realized this was something for me. I had a good foundation of full-body strength from my previous training experiences and decent body control. However, I couldn’t even do a single strict pull-up when I started.
At the beginning of my calisthenics journey, I didn’t have a clear plan or future goals. I just wanted to learn skills that looked fun, mostly dynamic moves, and didn’t focus much on reps or static strength. Surprisingly, just six months in, I entered my first competition. That’s when I knew I wanted to become the best in the world.
Finding Inspiration
When it comes to inspiration, my biggest motivator has always been the future version of myself. I’ve always been driven to see how far I can go. But I also look up to a few other athletes. When I started, I was “chasing” Melanie Driessen and Natalia Modzelewska. In recent years, my close friends Simon Imhauser, Daniel Hristov, and Alisia Persa have been my sources of inspiration for different reasons.
Simon, despite being the biggest and heaviest guy in the game, defies gravity in ways I can relate to, being one of the heaviest girls. Daniel is just an alien with his skills, flows, and combinations, overcoming injuries and coming back stronger. Alisia, in my opinion, is one of the most complete female athletes in calisthenics.
From Other Sports to Calisthenics
Before discovering calisthenics, I played floorball and football from a very young age until I was about 14. After that, I spent eight years in cheerleading before moving to the gym, which eventually led me to calisthenics.
